Thinking Points CoverFirst Handbook

“Political framing is applied cognitive science.” George Lakoff, et al, Thinking Points

Thinking Points is the Caring Citizens’ handbook. Know any bird watchers? Ever know them to go bird watching without their field guide? No, of course not. It’s used and dogeared. Click on the orange book to get your downloadable copy.

Caring Citizens Chapters and groups seeking to charter incorporate discussion (brief or more in-depth) of a chapter a week. We hope you will participate. You can start by reading it yourself. After you’ve finished, think of someone you would like to discuss it with and invite them to read it and discuss it. Now you’ve got a group. Who else might be interested?

Democracy is a relational enterprise, which is why it’s soul is empathy and shared responsibility. Our 1st Amendment freedom to “gather” is where democracy takes place. We hope you will use your downloadable copy of Thinking Points to strengthen democracy in your neighborhood.

You might also want to participate in our on-line chapter discussions at our Facebook page or on The Blog.

 Second Handbook

“The most powerful form of thinking is strategic. It is not just a matter of thinking ahead. It is a matter of changing the landscape of thought and action. It is a matter of setting things in motion by setting one thing in motion. It is a matter of reconfiguring the future by doing one thing in the present.” George Lakoff, Chapter 7, Thinking Points, quoted on page 42 of this second handbook

Thanks are in order to our consultant team, Joe Brewer, Eric Haas, and Sara Robinson of Cognitive Policy Works. Click on the handbook to download your copy.

Third Handbook

Building Trust for Effective Governance

“The Insider Game Frame should be confronted directly to reveal how it perpetuats an elite form of rule that contradicts the founding aspirations for democracy in the United States.” Joe Brewer, Cognitive Policy Works White Paper, Building Trust for Effective Governance

This white paper was the first commissioned work by Chuck Watts, Co-Founder, Empathy Surplus Project, and lies at the heart of Caring Citizens Chapters. “Legitimacy is determined by one’s responsiveness to their community.”

Fourth Handbook
