Shift the current massive public revenue subsidy away from cruel corporations focused on commodity agriculture and immorally high CEO compensation to subsidies to create an infrastructure for affordable, and healthy food. Do this by making a pact with the American / Ohio farmer, rancher, fisherman to invest in healthy and sustainable farming.
Let’s put our heads together and figure out how to do this. We could:
- We could provide tax credits for sustainable farmers that reduce their dependence on cancer causing herbicides and pesticides on our food, or reduce their use of fossil fuels to get the job done.
- We could subsidize anti-oxidant food research and development, promotion and distribution.
- We could subsidize the creation of land trusts for farmers and ranchers who sustainably manage the land.
- We could invest in community gardens.
This freedom expansion statement could be moved as a resolution by party precinct representatives in every organized county party in Senate District 17, either Democratic or Republican.
During Primary Season Ending March 6, 2012
Call all candidates for public office in all parties and ask if they will support healthy foods initiatives in one or all of the following ways. Ask them to go on record supporting healthy foods initiatives. Post positive and encouraging messages on their Facebook pages encouraging them to support healthy foods.
Call both of your elected precinct party representatives and ask each one if they will use this language AND move a county party resolution that adopts this language when talking about expanding healthy foods. Call your local board of elections to find out your elected precinct representatives in both parties.
