Dear Dean,
It is naive to believe the government as "altruistic" and "reflecting compassion etc." It is interesting about how liberals scream about the separation of church and state but want their Christian morals throughout our government. Dean, Christianity starts with the individual. If that individual carries his values to his office, there you have your altruism. Are you ready to back that up with a vote? Should a pro-life candidate who is voted into office work to repeal Roe v. Wade? That person believes he or she is being altruistic...would you stand with that candidate? Where do you draw the line?
No-you cannot shape government with your definition of altruism.

My thoughts exactly. Thanks for this great compassionate and thoroughly American response to a moral worldview that rejects basic human rights.

[...] Transit-For-All They all, including supporting bike trail grants, requires strength of character that includes empathy and responsibility, both personal and social. Please don’t take me the wrong way. I know and can trust your character strength – - – it focuses on conservatism, a philosophy that is increasingly becoming to many of us to feel like a bully philosophy. Yes, personal responsibility is a core value. I think you, Mike, Bill and I are all on the same page about personal responsibility and hard work. We’ve all been successful, and it’s now time to pay it forward. And paying it forward, embracing federal grants, also requires strength of character that focuses on progressive values of empathy and responsibility, both personal AND social. I know you posses these values. All human beings are born with them. What we need is for you to APPLY these values to a view of government that focuses on protection and empowerment of ordinary human beings, NOT bully corporations, or their bully enablers occupying public government all over America. A growing number of Clinton County residents want to occupy compassion in our community AND want our elected officials to do the same. We’re tired of our neighbors having to beg for healthcare through healthcare fund raisers, while bully corporations and their bully enablers inside government ignore their human dignity. We’re tired of our neighbors having to beg for ethical businesses that offer living wages for dignified work, while bully corporations (like DHL) and their bully enablers inside government continue historically high profit and send our jobs overseas. We’re tired of our neighbors having to beg for clean elections, while bully corporations and their bully enablers inside government make our election process dirtier. People, not corporations, are human beings with human rights. Money is not speech. We’re tired of our neighbors having to beg for healthy foods, while bully corporations and their bully enablers inside government either ignore being part of the solution for slimmer children, or are the cause of twenty percent of our children going to bed hungry each night. We’re tired of our neighbors having to beg to be able to get themselves or their goods to places they need to be (OR in the case of bike trails, just to have a little fun), while bully corporations and their bully enablers inside government continue major subsidies to an oil industry gushing with money. Frankly, we’re tired of bullies, and hope you are too. Your latest action to not even offer a second to transit-for-all causes us doubt about the level of your compassion, when we, your constituents, have to beg you for a federal grant. We want to believe you are capable of public compassion and social responsibility – - – that conservatism’s so-called tough love (really, just a stick in the eye) is not the only arrow in your quiver. So I hope you’ll consider what’s good for your neighbors. It’s time human dignity and the common good become your concern as well as ours. We need it and believe you CAN deliver it . . . if you have the heart to occupy compassion. Support us. Empathy Surplus Project specializes in empowering ordinary citizens to be the caring citizens all Americans are called to be by chartering Caring Citizens Chapters in their neighborhoods.
